NEW Video Vomit Playlist! This one is actually two months worth of music video releases, which means some of these came out as early as May. I know two months sounds like a rather long period of time in terms of internet relevance, so let’s just pretend this was actually supposed to be an early-summer playlist! See? Everyone wins. These are listed alphabetically (because I’m OCD). I only wrote a little bit of commentary under my favorite ones (because I’m lazy).
Brooke Candy Ft. Lakewet “Pussy Make The Rules”
This bitch right here definitely lives by her own set of rules and takes nothing from nobody. It would make sense to say that in song form when you’re a performing artist. A bunch of Gaga fans were really upset that she used nun costumes and the curly short wig like Gaga did in her music videos. Because, you know, Gaga has exclusive rights to everything she does. Because, you know, Gaga hasn’t taken from other artists. Brooke Candy is on a different level. Apples and oranges, people.
Charli XCX “Take My Hand”
Charli XCX is my favorite female artist at the moment. I’m like obsessed with her and her super 90’s, grungy look that totally works with her music. I want to be her for Halloween. “Take My Hand” comes from her debut album True Romance, which was released earlier this year via IAMSOUND music. Apparently this video was produced by Urban Outfitters.
David Lynch & Lykke Li “I’m Waiting Here”
The fact that David Lynch makes music still trips me out. The fact that he worked with Lykke Li is like woah.
Die Antwoord “Cookie Thumper”
Iggy Azalea “Bounce”
I know two things about this video: 1. Iggy broke Indian law by shooting with/on that elephant, 2. The single is not available for purchase in the US. However, it should be part of Iggy’s debut album, The New Classic, which is due never. And one more thing: I have purposely kept away from reading articles claiming that Iggy’s appropriation of Indian culture in her work is offensive.
Lana Del Rey “Young and Beautiful”
Yes, the answer is yes. I will still love you when you’re no longer young and beautiful, Lana del Rey. You know that I will.
This song comes from The Great Gatsby‘s OST, which is absolutely fucking amazing in case you haven’t heard it.
Le1f “Spa Day”
Major Lazer “Bubble But (Ft. Bruno Mars, 2 Chainz, Tyga & Mystic)”
M.I.A. “Bring the Noize”
After a long gestation period, M.I.A. finally delivered a new music video! The single was released online only a few days prior to the video release, all in anticipation of M.I.A.’s forthcoming album Matangi. The timing has been really weird with M.I.A. lately, but hopefully we won’t have to wait much longer for her new material.
Miley Cyrus “We Can’t Stop”
I literally cannot stop watching/listening to this. I don’t even know why. The more articles I read about Miley’s abuse of ‘black bodies’ as accessories, and the more I think about Rihanna considering this song for herself and rejecting it, the more I start to question where my taste level really is. Girl is getting a ton of shit over her aesthetic and casting decisions, and here I am praising her take on ‘black’ music. Should I feel bad? Why can’t everyone just dance with
MØ “Waste of Time”
Vampire Weekend “Diane Young”
I had two major reactions watching this: 1. OMG Sky Ferreira got an invo to Vampire Weekend’s Last Supper! and 2. OMG I want to smoke weed from a saxophone with Sky Ferreira and Vampire Weekend! This is the leading single from their new album, Modern Vampires of the City.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs “Mosquito”
This video is absolutely terrible. It consists of watching a mosquito feeding on a little kid’s blood. The entire time. What a nightmare! The song is the second single from the band latest album, which bears the same name.
